Wah (Huang Hua, Tom Wong) was born in the mid-1950s and began
studying Wu style Tai-Chi at age 11 from Master Tam, a police chief.
Master Tam later introduced Wong to many top grandmasters of various
styles including wing chun grandmaster Sum
Nung (Cen Neng). Grandmaster Sum hesitated to accept Wong as
a student at first due to his young age. However, grandmaster Sum
later became very impressed by Wong's memory and ability to repeat
his demonstrations and Wong began studying with him in roughly 1972.
Because
of these experiences and his excellent training, Wong sifu developed
into a superb martial artist, praised for his kicking techniques
and his one-inch-punch which earned him the nickname the "bone-crusher."
In 1979, Wong sifu came to the U.S. to meet his
grandfather (Wong Wing) who was remembered by many as Long Wing,
and was elected as a Chinese community leader in the old Chinatown
of Los Angeles and San Francisco in the 1940's and 1950's. Wong
returned to China to continue his studies during school breaks,
and also began teaching in the Los Angelese area. Among his students
are Dannial Gomez, David Lee, Justin Bronk, Ben Eller, and many
others.
